Vision and background

The West End Project (WEP) is the largest and most ambitious public realm project the Council has ever undertaken, investing £35m to improve the Tottenham Court Road area. Much of this money is externally funded. The project will bring about significant positive change and improvements to the area in preparation for the opening of a new Crossrail station.

The project will transform Tottenham Court Road and its surrounding areas in preparation for the opening of a new Crossrail station.

To minimise the impact for residents and businesses, WEP will transform the Tottenham Court Road area, making it safer and more attractive for residents, boosting business and creating new public spaces for the community and visitors to enjoy.

The current one-way system will be removed and replaced with two-way streets, upgraded signalised junctions, protected cycle lanes and widened footpaths.
