The scale of the challenge

We saved £93 million from our budget between 2010/11 and 2014/15, but additional cuts to government funding alongside other social pressures – such as increases to the cost of living – have left us with further financial challenges.

The infographic below explains where our money comes from and how it’s spent. It also highlights our future funding gap.

This infographic was produced in early 2016. We have a savings programme in place totalling £78 million to be delivered by 2017/18. This will be sufficient to balance our budget by 2017/18 and to get a step ahead in closing the budget gap beyond this. Our current forecasts show that we will need to make additional £20 million of budget reductions over the three years from 2018/19 to 2020/21.
