Equality

Camden is one of the most diverse places in the country and communities of people with different identities, pride, cultures and abilities that are part of the neighbourhoods in London. We are home to some of the poorest and some of the wealthiest enjoy a good quality of life, others face hardships.

Reducing inequality while preserving the diverse culture is part of our goals for Camden to reflect community cultural pride, distinctiveness and disability as part of the Camden Plan. The aim is to build resilience within communities of individuals and the council itself.

Our equality policy

Camden has an ambitious agenda to address the needs of people who are faced with disadvantage or inequalities e.g. treated less favourably because of race, sex, disability, age, gender, reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity / paternity, sexual orientation, transgender, religion / belief. We are committed to making sure that:

Our services give satisfaction to all

Our policies and method don’t have any unintended adverse impacts

Our workforce is representative at all levels

Equality information and objectives

We developed our equality objectives alongside those in the Camden Plan.

We also publish a wide range of information illustrating our approach to meeting the requirements of the Public Sector Equality Duty and tackling inequality.

Equality taskforce

To help us achieve our aims we also set up an equality taskforce aimed at exploring our role in challenging inequality in Camden. The taskforce explored how local public services can help tackle inequality in the borough, taking a fresh look at what influences inequality locally and exploring how it can best be tackled.

Accessibility of this website

We are committed to a website that is accessible to all our users. We have taken on board international guidance and web accessibility guidance about how to do this. Our accessibility web page provides guidance on the steps that we have taken. Our aim is to ensure everyone can access our website. This includes people with sight problems, hearing, mobility and cognitive impairments.

We review the site regularly and amend pages that may cause problems for people with disabilities. We have a web accessibility policy and a range of guides.
