Attracting investment into Camden

As a leading centre of knowledge and innovation, Camden attracts investment, visitors and customers from across the globe. Over the next 20 years most new jobs created in Camden will be in three growth sectors:

  • professional and business services
  • creative industries
  • science and technology

King’s Cross, Euston, Tottenham Court Road, Holborn, West Hampstead and Camden Town will benefit from significant developments in the next few years. We will work with developers to make sure that growth is sustainable and inclusive and invest in new and improved homes, schools and facilities through our Community Investment Programme

Local people with the right skills

We encourage investment, particularly in the growth sectors, by ensuring local people have the right skills to contribute. For example, our Code Club will teach all Camden primary school pupils basic programming with help from volunteers at Google and UCL.

Attracting visitors

Camden is home to world-famous attractions like the British Museum, the world’s second most visited cultural institution (welcoming 6.8 million visitors in 2015), and Camden Town markets, London’s third most popular tourist destination. We work with partners to promote Camden to visitors and customers.

Affordable work space

We use planning policies to protect existing employment floor space and encourage the provision of high-quality new and upgraded commercial space, especially where this is suitable and affordable to SMEs. We promote meanwhile business uses of vacant or under-used spaces and use council-owned assets to increase the supply of SME floor space. Space is sought after in Camden so we need to balance this with much needed housing and community facilities.
