Residents invited to audit the council

Camden Council has today started to share details of expenditure over £500.

As one of the first councils to make a firm commitment to publish expenditure on the web, the move represents another step by the council to become as transparent as possible.

The information has been available online since Friday 1 October.

Camden Council will allow expenditure data to be downloaded and viewed in spreadsheets, making it even easier and quicker to see where council money goes.

Councillor Theo Blackwell, Cabinet Member for Finance, Camden Council, said:

“Residents have the right to know where their money goes.  By opening up council accounts, people can see where money is being spent, and importantly, hold us to account by suggesting where we could make further savings.”

Notes to editors:

Details will be given of payments made to contractors and suppliers.
