Palace date as DofE award winners meet the Duke

Three young people from Camden met the Duke of Edinburgh himself at St James’s Palace.

The young people had just completed their gold DofE awards and were delighted to get the chance to meet Prince Philip.

But the lucky three were not the only ones completing their award; in fact this year Camden has notched up an impressive total of 82 medals including 14 gold, 16 silver and 52 bronze.

In the region of 500 young people are involved in DofE programmes in schools and youth centres across the borough, co-ordinated by Camden Council.

Councillor Nasim Ali, Leader of Camden Council, accompanied by Andy Knowles, Camden’s assistant director for Children, Schools and Families, also attended St James’s Palace to receive Camden’s renewed DofE licence from the Duke of Edinburgh.

Councillor Ali said: “I was honoured to accompany our young people to this prestigious event. They have done themselves and Camden proud with all that they have achieved as part of the Duke of Edinburgh award.”

Councillor Heather Johnson, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, Camden Council, added: “Taking part in such a challenging scheme has proven to be a very worthwhile and constructive activity and I am delighted that so many of our young people have received awards. Getting to meet the Duke of Edinburgh himself is a particular honour and I am sure they all feel very proud of their efforts.”

Camden’s Open Award Centre, at Coram Fields, Guildford Street, is open to all young people aged 14 to 24 who want to take part in the DofE programme. For more details call 020 7974 5074 / 1963 or 07908 672 645 or email dofe@camden.gov.uk
