As a result of the examination process, further changes (known as Main Modifications) to the Site Allocations document were proposed:

A number of Minor Modifications were also proposed. These comprise factual updates, points of clarification and other minor changes which individually were not considered to materially affect the soundness of the Plan:

We have also reviewed the Sustainability Appraisal in light of the Main Modifications and this is published alongside a 'Tracked Changes' version of the Plan. These documents can downloaded here:

An Inspector, Louise Crosby MA MRTPI, was appointed by the Secretary of State to conduct an examination to determine whether the Site Allocations document was sound:

Proposed submission site allocations

From March 2012 to May 2012 we carried out consultation on the Proposed Submission Site Allocations document:

Further sites consultation

From November 2010 to January 2011, we carried out consultation on the inclusion of a number of additional sites in our Site Allocations document. This followed on from the Preferred approach consultation carried out between November 2009 and January 2010 and the Issues and options consultation that was carried out in 2008:

Preferred approach consultation (November 2009 to January 2010)

The Preferred Approach consultation was the second main consultation stage in preparing the Site Allocations DPD. It followed on from our Issues and Options consultation in 2008 and sets out a suggested approach to the future development of the boroughs major sites:

Issues and Options Consultation (October to November 2008)

The issues and options consultation was the first main consultation stage in preparing the Site Allocations DPD.

It sought views on potential development sites within the borough. This consultation was used to assist development of our preferred approach:

Sites suggested for future development (February 2008)

During February and March 2008 we invited landowners, developers, agents and other interested parties to suggest sites for potential development or redevelopment that they may want included within this document.

We received a number of responses relating to various sites of which most have been included for consideration through the Site Allocations consultation document.

Sustainability appraisal

The progression of the Site Allocations document was carried out in conjunction with a Sustainability Appraisal which ensured that planning documents were informed by sustainability principles at an early stage in the process:
