The Constitution

We have agreed a new constitution which sets out how we operate, how decisions are made and the procedures which are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people.

The law requires some of these processes, while others are a matter for us to choose.

The Constitution is divided into 14 articles which set out the basic rules governing our business. More detailed procedures and codes of practice are provided in separate rules and protocols.

For your convenience, the constitution has been divided up into eight parts, as detailed below. There is also a full version available.
